Making the switch
Choose the fit for your website
Start free, with native funnels
OpenMetrica includes a hosted free plan and a native funnel report built from goals. Fathom's current documentation describes event conversions but does not list an equivalent native sequential funnel report.
Add context to custom events
OpenMetrica events accept scalar properties such as plan or category, with discovery and breakdown reports. Fathom documents an event name and optional _value for money. Both support revenue measurement.
Give collaborators an editing role
OpenMetrica provides separate Owner, Editor and Viewer memberships. Fathom offers individually revocable shared links for viewers, and its documentation says fully functional additional user accounts are still being developed.
Fathom can cost less
At 100K monthly volume Fathom lists $15 and at 1M it lists $60, in US dollars, with at least 50 sites. OpenMetrica Starter lists €19 and €69 for one site. Their event accounting differs, so compare the full workload.
Recognize the features both offer
Saved filters, exclusions, UTM tools, revenue events and protected sharing are available in both. OpenMetrica's advantages here are its free allowance, goal funnels and configurable team roles, rather than an absence of those features in Fathom.
The verdict
Choose the reporting depth and access you need
OpenMetrica combines a free plan, native funnels, general event properties and team roles. Fathom offers lower entry paid prices and many more included sites.
